Natural Gas Prices Trend Upward | Infrared Heaters

The source many of our customers use to fuel their central heating systems is natural gas. It’s a cleaner source of energy than most of the alternatives, but it’s not cheap when you need to buy months worth of it for the cold season.  That obligation is about to get more costly – but we do have a solution (think quart infrared heaters).

The United States sits on the largest, proven natural gas reserves in the world.  Because of this, prices for this form of energy are very, very low compared to the rest of the world.  Americans pay between 1/2 to 1/3 the costs people in other countries pay.  That’s going to change drastically in the coming years.

As American companies begins to export natural gas on a large scale for the first time in history, a parity will occur in the market price.  At current rates, if we “met the world halfway” then prices for natural gas in the U.S. would increase over 50%!

The chart below from the U.S. Energy Information Administration reflects this coming reality when you look at the trend in natural gas futures.  As you see, prices could reach over $9 in the next year, with only a slight chance of the cost actually declining.
